JAKARTA - Hydrogen refueling infrastructure is minimal all over the world, as a strategic step, Hyundai and Toyota (Australia) are collaborating with oil companies Ampol, and Pacific Energy to develop the infrastructure in Australia.
The four companies plan to develop hydrogen refueling stations, located in the middle of the capital Canberra.
"Hydrogen can play an important role in providing decarbonization benefits for transportation, and developing the right infrastructure is a key step," said Ampol Managing Director and CEO Matt Halliday, quoted from the Carscoops website, Wednesday, November 1.
He further said that this cooperative relationship is to develop the hydrogen ecosystem, which is indeed very much needed as an alternative to environmentally friendly transportation.
As is known, Hyundai introduced 23 units of the Nexo FCEV in Canberra in 2021 through partnership with the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) government. Meanwhile, Toyota has also run trials of the Mirai FCEV in Australia, although it is currently not available for private purchases.
"In 2021, Hyundai deployed 23 NEXO Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles to Canberra as partners in the hydrogen station project, and the first in Australia," said Hyundai Australia CEO Ted Lee.
