JAKARTA - Marc Marquez is confirmed to stay at the Ducati factory until the end of the 2028 competition season after he officially signed a new two-year contract.
Ducati Lenovo Team in an official statement confirmed that the Spanish rider had extended his contract so that he would continue with them in the 2027 and 2028 racing seasons.
"Marc Marquez will continue to wear the Ducati Lenovo team uniform for the next two years in the MotoGP World Championship," read an official statement published by Ducati on their official website.
Marquez officially joined Ducati last year which marked his biggest comeback in MotoGP. The debut season ended with the world championship title, his seventh title in the class.
The title puts him on a par with Italian legend Valentino Rossi. The rider nicknamed The Baby Alien needs one more title to match Giacomo Agostini's record, which is still recorded as the most successful rider with eight titles.
Claudio Domenicali as CEO of Ducati Motor Holding said that their decision to extend the contract with Marquez was the best choice after last year's extraordinary results.
"He brings a mentality that, if possible, even more tenacious and an incredible competitive spirit to an already successful team. In addition to having incredible talent, he also represents the Ducati mentality perfectly," he said.
The Baby Alien last season total recorded 14 wins in the Sprint Race and 11 wins in the main race on the way to winning the world championship. It was his first title since 2019 when he was still with Honda.
Marquez admitted that he was very happy to still be given trust so that a new agreement could be reached. He also aspired to continue to perform competitively and bring the team to the forefront.
"They believe in me and we have built a relationship based on trust and hard work. With this contract extension, they once again confirm this commitment, appreciate my time, and give me the peace of mind I need," he said.
Marquez's chances of retaining the title this year are open again after he won two consecutive victories at the Hungarian and Czech Republic MotoGP. He is now only 40 points behind Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) in the top position.
