BWF World Tour Finals 2025 results: Fajar/Fikri defeated Aaron/Soh

Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri immediately lost in the first match of the BWF World Tour Finals 2025 group B (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - The Indonesian men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri immediately suffered a defeat from the Malaysian pair, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, in the first match of the BWF World Tour Finals 2025 group stage.

The pair of China Open 2025 champions had to admit defeat after going through a three-game match with a score of 24-22, 18-21, and 19-21 at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium, Hangzhou, China, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.

Fajar/Fikri managed to win the first game after recovering from a 3-8 deficit. From there, they scored six consecutive points to turn the tide.

The chase for the numbers after that was dramatic. The Malaysian and Fajar/Fikri pairs took turns leading the points. Aaron/Soh was ahead 22-21 before Fajar/Fikri scored three consecutive points to secure the first game.

In the second game, Fajar/Fikri started the match well and were ahead 7-3. However, the Malaysian pair managed to reduce the lead to 8-9, before they scored five consecutive points and continued to lead until the end of the game.

In the deciding game, Fajar/Fikri dominated the course of the match and were ahead 16-12. However, Aaron/Soh bounced back by winning five consecutive points, taking control of the game, and securing victory.

Fajar/Fikri is the fourth Indonesian representative who suffered a defeat in the first group match. Previously, Jonatan Christie, Putri Kusuma Wardani, and Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu, also lost.

The only representative who managed to win the group stage match was the men's doubles Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani. They defeated Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun from Malaysia.

In the second match, Fajar/Fikri will face former world number one from India, Chirag Shetty/Satwiksairaj Rankireddy. They then closed the group stage by playing Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang (China).

Fajar/Fikri needs to win the remaining two matches to keep their chances of reaching the semifinals. From the group stage, only the two best pairs are entitled to a ticket to the top four.
