After Liverpool Beat Inter Milan, Slot: Salah Itu, Salah Atau Saya

JAKARTA - Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is in the spotlight after being brought by manager Arne Slot while playing an away match against Inter Milan in the Champions League. Slot stated that Salah's chances of entering the squad remained open.

Liverpool showed a revival in the Champions League. After reaping disappointing results in the English Premier League when they were detained by Leeds United and Sunderland, they returned to winning ways in European competitions.

In a duel at the San Siro Stadium, Wednesday, December 10, 2025 in the morning WIB, Liverpool beat Inter Milan 1-0. Dominik Szoboszlai scored his only goal from the penalty spot.

Only that victory was not a concern but the absence of Mohamed Salah. Because Slot did not bring Salah who was the pillar of the Reds in the away match. Previously, Salah was banned in the last three matches.

Interestingly, just hours before the match, Salah even uploaded himself when he was alone in the club's gym. The captain's upload of the Egyptian national team immediately invited the conversation.

Responding to Salah's actions, which seemed to heat up the club's internals, Slot stated that the door was open to his players. Salah was also able to return to the squad.

But Slot doesn't want to make any difference to other players. If he is in the best condition and focused, Salah will return to his place in the first team.

In an interview withrik Seedorf on Amazon Prime Sport after the match, Slot stated that there was no problem with Salah. Because everything can do wrong.

"You [Seedorf] say anyone can make mistakes in their life. The question is, are the players aware of their mistakes? When demanded from the start, actually what's wrong is the player or me? That's the next question," Slot said as quoted by ESPN.

Slot indirectly said that Salah started the dispute when he was being backed up. Salah also provoked chaos by saying he was 'thrown under a passing bus'.

"I'm not saying I'm not going to talk to him anymore. The question is who will start to talk. Whether I should start or him," he said again.

Ibou [Ibrahria] Konate has had a difficult time lately. But he impressed in this match [against Inter], "said the former Feyenoord coach.

Slot, further, said there were many improvements that had to be made after the match against PSV Eindhoven and Nottingham Forest. In two away games, Liverpool conceded up to seven goals. They were beaten by Forest 3-0 and then suffered a 4-1 massacre at home to PSV.

In the match against PSV and Forest, we conceded seven goals. So we have to make improvements and try not to concede again. That's what we did against West Ham United. Then when they faced Sunderland, they only got a chance in the 86th minute. And then the match against Leeds, we showed character and changed tactics in the second half," said Slot explaining.

There are many things that need to be said. Improvements made also affect the players. Salah does have an influence on clubs and other players. So sometimes they feel uncomfortable when something happens to their colleagues," he said.

Meanwhile, captain Virgil van Dijk gave a diplomatic answer in response to his colleague's condition. According to him, the club and Salah will overcome the problems that occur.

"I have no right to say who should apologize. He [Salah] just wants to express his feelings. I am sure the club and he will solve this problem," said Van Dijk.

"I've known him for a long time. He's my best friend. We were together when we were at the lowest point and at the highest point. We will remain one and agree to face the noise from outside," he said.

Victory over Inter put Liverpool back on track. The success of winning three points brought Liverpool into the last eight of the Champions League. They are ranked eighth with 12 points.
