Prabowo Instructs Three Athletes' Welfare Priorities

President Prabowo Subianto called Menpora Erick Thohir to discuss the welfare of athletes (doc. Kemenpora).

President Prabowo Subianto gave three main directions to the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir, regarding improving the welfare of athletes and strengthening the national sports development ecosystem.

This priority was conveyed by President Prabowo in a meeting with Menpora Erick Thohir which took place at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

"There are three things that he asked me to follow up on. One of them is about scholarships for LPDP athletes to really allocate what they will be like," Erick said in a statement received.

In addition to scholarships, President Prabowo also opened career space for outstanding athletes to serve in the public service sector and review bonus schemes for SEA Games, Asian Games, and the Olympics athletes.

The preparation related to this bonus problem will be further consulted with the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu).

"This figure is not allowed because I have to consult with the Ministry of Finance first because this is because we have to make a big plan from the state budget," said Erick.

President Prabowo also decided that there will be a new legal umbrella that will be the basis for the Government's focus on 21 sports towards the Olympics. Meanwhile, the SEA Games and the Asian Games will be targets between in the framework of long-term preparation.

Another concern is the construction of a national sports center equipped with a sports academy, dormitory facilities, integrated training facilities, and the best health service support for athletes. This is done in order to strengthen the coaching system.

The facility is prepared to ensure young athletes continue to receive good education while undergoing intensive training.

"Young athletes who are 12 years old should not drop out of school, but he is balanced with education while practicing up to the next career tiers or the next level of achievement," said Erick.

President Prabowo has prepared a 300 hectare land for the construction of the sports center area. However, the exact location cannot be announced because it is still in the administrative process.
