JAKARTA The International Sambo Federation (FIAS) asked Indonesia to participate in the bidding to host the 2027 Sambo World Championships after successfully holding the 2025 World Youth and Junior Sambo Championship.
This was confirmed by the General Chairperson of the Central Management of the Indonesian Sambo Association (PP Persambi), Krisna Bayu, on the sidelines of holding the 2025 World Youth and Junior Sambo Championship at the JSI Resort Convention Hall, Bogor, Megamendung, West Java.
Krisna said that FIAS President Vasily Shestakov asked Indonesia to take part in the bidding to host the senior level World Championships in 2027.

"Indonesia is offered to hold the 2027 Sambo World Championship. So, we will immediately draw up a proposal to follow the bidding process with other countries," Krisna told the media.
World Youth and Junior Sambo Championship 2025 were attended by more than 400 athletes from 34 countries. This is the first time a sambo tournament for youth and junior levels has been held in the Southeast Asian region.
The number of participating countries is even the most who have come in a Sambo World Championship. This is an indicator that the sport is increasingly popular in many countries.
Vasily said that apart from being able to win medals, Indonesia as the host also showed extraordinary readiness in organizing one of the important events in the FIAS calendar.
"I would like to thank the Indonesian National Samba Federation, especially to the current President (Persambi), Mr. Krisna Bayu. Of course, I would like to thank you for your support, his extraordinary team," he said.
Indonesia closed the tournament with four bronze medals. This is an achievement far from the federation's expectations, which are actually targeting nothing for Indonesian representatives.
The four bronze medals were contributed by Tree Apdiansyah Putra (men's +98 kg combat class), Suryo Nugroho (men's 79 kg combat class), Amelia Devy (women's junior sports class +80kg), and Handezka Vaktorias (men's 64 kg combat junior).
