Korea Open 2025: Alwi Gets Quarter-Final Tickets Without Riding Sweat

Alwi Farhan secured tickets for the quarter-finals of the Korea Open 2025 without competing (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA The men's singles badminton player, Alwi Farhan, secured tickets for the quarter-finals of the Korea Open 2025 without the need to sweat.

Alwi was supposed to face Lee Cheuk Yiu from Hong Kong in the second round of the tournament on Thursday, September 25, 2025. However, his opponent decided to withdraw due to injury.

Thus, the 2023 junior world champion automatically secured the last eight tickets. He is the first Indonesian men's singles to make sure he escapes.

Unfortunately, Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo's men's singles journey was confirmed to stop in the second half. He returned home after losing 9-21 and 17-21 against third seed Chou Tien Chen from China Taipei.

Indonesia can still add men's singles tickets through Jonatan Christie and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. Both names have not yet played the second round of matches.

Besides Chico, the mixed doubles of Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu also felt defeat. The pair was beaten by Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Boje (Denmark) with the final score 24-22, 19-21, and 14-21.

"In this match, patience, calm, and power are very influential. This is a new lesson for us because we first participated in three consecutive tournaments, so we have to be smarter in maintaining conditions," said Felishha.

This is the fourth time that Jafar/Felisha have run aground in the second half. They previously only reached the same stage at the 2025 BWF World Championships, the 2025 Hong Kong Open, and the 2025 China Masters.

"What is still being evaluated is that if we throw away points we cannot get one or a maximum of two, always in a row. We must be able to solve this problem in the future," said Fekha.
