Transfer Expert: Gattuso Agrees To Be The Head Coach Of The Italian National Team

JAKARTA - Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Gennaro Gattuso had agreed to become the new coach of the Italian national team replacing Luciano Spalletti.

"Gennaro Gattuso has agreed to become the new head coach of the Italian national team. Gattuso will soon replace Luciano Spalletti, an agreement has been reached," Romano wrote in his official X account, Sunday, June 15.

This will be a new career journey for Gattuso, who previously only coached the club. The last time the AC Milan legend coached was last season in the Croatian League with HNK Hajduk Split.

There, he won 20 wins, 14 draws, and nine defeats from 43 matches in all competitions he led. During the one season there, the 47-year-old coach failed to bring Hajduk to the championship after being two points adrift of Rijeka in the club.

Meanwhile, Spalletti was decided to be replaced by the Italian football federation after the man who led Napoli to the Scudetto for the 2022/2023 season failed to bring the Azzurri to a good performance.

In the last old league, Italy was only able to win one, where they won this victory in Spalletti's farewell match against Moldova in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, last Tuesday.

Meanwhile, from another source, Italian team manager Gigi Buffon confirmed that they would appoint Gattuso as the new coach. He told RAI Sport that, "We have made the best decision".

"We are working hard, we are waiting for the final details now. The President and the Federation are having quite a lot of busy days with various moments. I think in the end we have made the best decisions," Buffon added.

Before the coach's choice fell to Gattuso, Italy gave Claudio Ranieri his first choice. However, the 73-year-old coach rejected it because it had announced his resignation from the coaching world and had chosen to be a special advisor in Rome.
