Virgil Van Dijk Officially Extends Contract At Liverpool Until 2027

Virgil van Dijk officially extended his contract with Liverpool (Instagram/@liverpoolfc).

JAKARTA - Virgil van Dijk officially signed a contract extension at Liverpool. The new contract will see Van Dijk at Anfield until the 2027 season.

The captain signed a deal to ensure cooperation with Liverpool after nearly seven and a half years from his arrival in the Reds.

This good news came after Mohamed Salah, who last week had also agreed to extend his cooperation with Liverpool.

"I am very happy, very proud," Van Dijk said on Liverpool's official website, quoted Thursday, April 17, 2025.

Back to continuing cooperation at Anfield, Van Dijk said he was proud and happy. You see, Liverpool is part of his extraordinary career journey.

"There are so many emotions that obviously pass through my head right now talking about it. It's a feeling of pride, it's a feeling of joy. It's amazing."

"The journey I have experienced so far in my career, to be able to extend it by two more years at this club, is extraordinary and I am very happy," he said.

Van Dijk first joined Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018 and he quickly began to establish himself as one of the best defenders in world football.

His defensive strength has become important in helping the Reds win seven major awards during his tenure. Van Dijk also made 314 appearances and 27 goals to date.

Some of the trophies Van Dijk has tasted with Liverpool are the Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, and two League Cups (Carabao Cup).

At the individual level, Van Dijk was also named the Best Player of the PFA Player of the Year in 2019 and has been selected in the Premier League Team this year on four separate occasions.

The 33-year-old is also second in the 2019 Ballon d'Or vote, his position is under Lionel Messi who still holds his status as a modern great player.

Van Dijk took over Liverpool's armband permanently in the summer of 2023 and now he is continuing his struggle to continue to provide good results for the Reds.
