JAKARTA - Indonesia's talented short track speed skating athlete, Arsa Mizan Putra Firdaus, immediately set three big targets after debuting at the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China.
One of the closest targets is the podium at the 2025 SEA Games which will take place in Thailand in December this year. The target podium also wants him to get when defending Indonesia in the next Asian Winter Games.
"If I aspire to the Winter Olympics, that's for sure. From a few years ago I had a dream to represent Indonesia at the Winter Olympics," Arsa said in a statement received by the media.
Arsa appeared in three short track speed skating numbers for the 2025 Asian Winter Games, namely 500 meters, 1000 meters, and 1500 meters. His younger brother, Alva Kayana Putra Firdaus, also appeared in the same three numbers at Harbin.
The brothers faced tough opponents in their performance at the Heilongjiang Ice Events Training Center. Among them are Shaoang Liu from China and Park Ji- won from South Korea.
Arsa admitted that he felt a little tense and so proud to be able to represent Indonesia in his first experience appearing in a multi-branch event at the international level.
"Almost all the opponents I face are world champions because the world's best athletes on the short track disciplined came from Asia. Earlier, I was quite proud to be able to stick to the world champion, even though it was only one lap on the risk earlier," said Arsa.
Arsa admitted that she had only been undergoing six weeks of preparation with her sister to appear in this event. That includes the two weeks they spent at the Namsun Leports Park & Fitness Club, at Daejeon, South Korea.
