Minister Of Home Affairs Tito's Message To Students, Menwa Education And Training No More Victims

JAKARTA - The Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, asked that the case of the death of a student during the Basic Education and Training of the Student Regiment (Diklatsar Menwa) such as at Sebelas Maret University (UNS) some time ago would not be repeated.

"The other Menwa brothers so that the same incident does not happen (as in the UNS Menwa)," said Tito Karnavian at Gedhong Pracimasana, Kepatihan Office, Yogyakarta, as reported by Antara, Monday.

Tito said that the case of the death of a UNS student in the Menwa activity needed to be seen from the root of the case, whether it was caused by system problems or just casuistic.

If the incident is casuistic, according to him, it should be a warning to similar institutions in other campuses so that the same case does not repeat itself.

However, if the case occurs because of the system in the organization, according to him, there must be improvements in terms of the system as well.

"But if (the death of UNS students in Menwa activities) is because of the system, then the system must be repaired," said Tito.

He said Menwa activities also have a positive role in supporting various social activities so it needs to be considered in assessing the existence of Menwa on campus.

"For example, Menwa also helps in a number of social activities. Positive things must be considered. If there are problems due to systematic and massive cases, the system must be corrected. Call Menwa to improve the system, so that it doesn't happen again," said the former National Police Chief.

(UNS) Surakarta, Central Java, officially suspended the Student Organization (Ormawa) Student Corps Standby Battalion 905 Butcher Abilawa UNS or Student Regiment (Menwa) following the case of the death of one of the students while participating in the activity.

The evaluation team from the campus internal stated that they found facts about violations of rules in the implementation of the XXXVI Patria Pre-Rehearsal Education and Basic Training of the Student Corps Standby Battalion 905 Butcher Abilawa UNS.

Based on the UNS Chancellor's Decree, the Student Corps Standby Battalion 905 Butcher Abilawa UNS is prohibited from carrying out any activities. The suspension was followed up with further monitoring and evaluation regarding the existence of the Student Corps Standby Battalion 905 Butcher Abilawa as one of the student organizations within UNS.
