JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives Pangeran Khairul Saleh asked the National Police to thoroughly investigate a network of police officers suspected of selling ammunition to terrorist armed criminal groups (KKB) in Papua.

"The police are obliged to thoroughly investigate this network of treason, so that they dare to give up their honor as a state apparatus by assisting the KKB," Pangeran said in Jakarta, Monday, October 1, quoted from Antara.

Pangeran said the arrest and appointment of two police officers should be appreciated as a quick step by the National Police, especially the National Police Chief to ward off public doubts about the performance of the officers in dealing with KKB in Papua.

According to him, the National Police must make every effort to ensure that such incidents that make the public concerned do not happen again.

"Our full support for the work of the Indonesian National Police in dealing with the armed criminal group (KKB)," he said.

He assessed that the National Police must strengthen the resilience and order of the Papuan people in the face of provocations from the KKB.

The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) regrets police officers are suspected of selling ammunition to the Papuan Armed Criminal Group (KKB) because this act is a form of betrayal of the Indonesian National Police and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

"If it is proven that they sold ammunition to the KKB, then they are traitors," said Kompolnas member Poengky Indarti.

Two Papuan Police personnel from the Nabire Police and the Yapen Police were arrested by the Nemangkawi Operations Task Force in Nabire, for allegedly being involved in selling ammunition to KKB.

Poengky said the actions of these police officers from the Nabire Police and the Yapen Police should be severely punished, such as the death penalty.

"If proven true, must be severely punished," said Poengky firmly.
