Nabiel Makarim died at the age of 75 today at 13:20 WIB at his residence.

Nabiel Makarim served as State Minister for the Environment in the Gotong Royong Cabinet led by the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri in the period 2001-2004.

Previously he also held positions as Deputy for Pollution Control at the Environmental Impact Management Agency (BAPEDAL) and Assistant Minister for Environmental Damage Control at the Office of the State Minister for Population and Environment.
