Signals Police Will Step Into Investigate Rachel Vennya's Escape From Wisma Atlet

JAKARTA - The police seem to have signaled that they will intervene to deal with the issue of Rachel Vennya's escape while undergoing quarantine at Wisma Atlet Pademangan. This is because the police are investigating the matter.

Director of the General Criminal Investigation of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Tubagus Ade Hidayat said the study of this matter was to decide what steps to take. Such as processing criminally or otherwise.

"Until now, we are still analyzing what it looks like, whether it is still under the authority of the task force or whether we need law enforcement or what we will review later," Tubagus told reporters, Thursday, October 14.

However, when he emphasized on law enforcement actions, Tubagus reiterated the need to pay close attention to the enforcement authorities related to the COVID-19 Task Force.

"We are still studying. There has been no legal action, from us yet, if we are clear people. We have to clarify first to several parties, yes," he continued.

The North Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Guruh Arif Darmawan, said that based on the results of the temporary coordination, the matter was still under the authority of the COVID-19 Task Force. Thus, the investigation steps have not been carried out.

"It is still being handled by the Task Force," he said.

"It means waiting for the results of the Task Force's investigation," continued Guruh.

If the investigation process from the COVID-19 Task Force has been completed, continued Guruh, then his party will begin the process of searching for instructions and information. Especially, to find out whether there is a criminal violation.

So far, what has been done is still limited to coordination. Thus, the investigation process will proceed according to the rules.

"Yes, later if there is a criminal violation of this police. Still coordinating from the task force," said Guruh.

Criminal Threat

On the other hand, Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said that there was a threat of sanctions that could ensnare Rachel for her actions.

"If there are parties who do not heed the quarantine, they can be subject to sanctions in Article 14 of Law Number 4 of 1984 concerning Infectious Disease Outbreaks and Article 93 of Law Number 6 of 2018 concerning Health Quarantine," said Wiku in Jakarta, Thursday, October 14.

If you look at the rules in question, Article 14 paragraph (1) of the Infectious Disease Outbreak Law states that those who deliberately hinder the control of the epidemic are threatened with imprisonment for a maximum of 1 year and a fine of Rp. 1 million.

Meanwhile, Article 93 of the Health Quarantine Law states that anyone who does not comply with the implementation of health quarantine and/or hinders the implementation of health quarantine so as to cause a public health emergency shall be subject to a maximum imprisonment of 1 year and/or a maximum fine of Rp. 100 million.

Wiku confirms that the legal process against Rachel is ongoing. "The task force upholds the application of applicable rules and enforces discipline to protect the safety of the community," said Wiku.

"To all international travelers, we ask you to obey the rules that have been set. Do not violate them because they will be subject to strict sanctions," he continued.

For information, the news of Rachel Vennya escaping from quarantine that has been circulating on social media for the past few days has finally been revealed. Apparently, Rachel Vennya was proven to have run away while still undergoing quarantine at the Pademangan Athlete's Guesthouse after returning from the United States.

Initially, this news circulated after an Instagram account named @_melatiintaan wrote a comment about the celebrity. This account claims to be one of the data input officers at Wisma Atlet Kemayoran.

According to him, Rachel was required to undergo quarantine for eight days but it turned out that Rachel only ran for three days.

"Ohhh, he was supposed to be quarantined at the Athlete House for 8 days, eh. But he just ran away for 3 days???" wrote @_melatiintaan on October 8, 2021.

Until finally the authorities opened their voices. In his written statement yesterday, the Head of the Jaya Pendam, Colonel Arh Herwin Budi Saputra, revealed the fact that Rachel Vennya was able to escape from Wisma Atlet because she was assisted by TNI personnel.

"It was found that there were allegations of non-procedural actions by members of the Soetta Airport Security (TNI) initials An.FS who had arranged for the Rachel Vennya program to avoid quarantine procedures that must be passed after traveling from abroad," said Herwin.
