Extends Detention Of Azis Syamsuddin, KPK Continues To Investigate Allegations Of Bribery In Handling Cases In Central Lampung

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has extended the detention period of former Deputy Speaker of the DPR Azis Syamsuddin for another 40 days. This extension was carried out after the investigator conducted an examination for the first time after he was determined as a suspect.

"Investigators have examined suspect AZ to complete the case file in question. Today is also the signing of the minutes of the extension of the detention of suspect AZ for the next 40 days starting from October 14 to November 22, 2021," Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement Affairs Ali Fikri told reporters, Monday, October 11th.

After an extension of detention, Azis Syamsuddin was then detained again at the South Jakarta Police Rutan.

"The investigation team will immediately complete the case file of the suspect in question," said Ali.

In addition to signing the file, investigators also examined Azis regarding allegations of insiders protecting him at the KPK. However, Ali said that the former deputy chairman of the Golkar Party had no other backing other than the former investigator of the anti-corruption commission, Stepanus Robin Pattuju, who is now a defendant.

"The suspect AZ explained in front of the investigators that there is no other party at the KPK who can assist his interests other than the SRP," he said

"Even so, of course the KPK does not stop here. Related to this, it will be confirmed again to other witnesses," added Ali.

Previously reported, Azis was named a suspect after he was suspected of giving bribes to Stepanus. This bribe was given by Azis together with the former chairman of the Golkar Party Youth Force (AMPG) Aliza Gunado.

This allegation began in August 2020 when Azis contacted Stepanus to deal with allegations of corruption in Central Lampung regarding the Special Allocation Fund. This case is said to have ensnared him and former chairman of the Golkar Party Youth Force (AMPG) Aliza Gunado.

Receiving the request, Stepanus contacted Maskur Husein to oversee and manage the case, which was then approved on the condition that Azis and Aliza had to prepare Rp2 billion each. It's just that Stepanus and Azis were arrested first so that the realization of the money distribution only reached Rp. 3.1 billion.
