JAKARTA - A joint team from the Yahukimo Police and the Nemangkawi Task Force managed to arrest Morume Keya Busup who was the main perpetrator of the attack on the Yali tribe in Yahukimo, Papua.

The Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono, said that Mourume was a person on the Police Wanted List (DPO).

"Arrested on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 3:40 WIT, located on Jalan Gunung Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency", said Argo Yuwono in a written statement, Saturday. October 9th.

Besides Mourome Busup, the joint team also managed to catch another person named Beto Ordias. Currently, said Argo, the two suspects have been secured and taken to the Yahukimo Police for further in-depth investigation.

"The case has been handled by the Yahukimo Police", said Argo.

Argo explained that Morume Keya Busup was the Chief of the General Kimyal tribe who attacked the Yali tribe on Sunday, October 3. Together with the perpetrators, the police also secured several evidence in the form of a bow, nine arrows, an axe, a cell phone, electronic devices, and other personal identities belonging to the suspect.

After the attack, the police immediately arrested 52 people suspected of being the perpetrators of the attack. And currently, 22 people have been named as suspects for the incident that left 41 people injured and six people dead.

The incident was allegedly triggered by mixed reports about the reason for the death of former Yahukimo Regent Abock Busup while on duty to Jakarta. Meanwhile, Abock himself was found unconscious in a room at the Grand Mercure Hotel, Central Jakarta. The police confirmed that there were no signs of violence or drugs. Abock was finally taken to the Meilia Cibubur Hospital at around 11.00 WIB and his life could not be saved.
