Tornadoes Damaged 34 Villagers' Houses In Serdang Bedagai, North Sumatra

MEDAN - Tornadoes hit the Dolok Masihul sub-district, Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra, resulting in minor to severe damage to 34 houses.

Head of BPBD Serdang Bedagai, Henry Suharto, said dozens of damaged houses were in four villages.

"Four villages were affected by the tornado, namely Bantan Village, Dolok Masihul Sub-district, 21 houses, Pekan Kamis Village (Dolok Masihul Sub-district) six houses, Batu Village (Dolok Masihul) 13 houses, and Martebing Village (Dolok Masihul) four houses," he was quoted as saying. Henry said residents whose houses were damaged by the tornado had temporarily taken refuge in the homes of neighbors and relatives.

"Our officers also help residents to evacuate residents' belongings," he said.

In addition to destroying dozens of houses, he continued, the strong winds also uprooted a number of trees in the area.

"We ask residents to remain careful because at this time there is still frequent rain accompanied by strong winds," continued Henry.
