Simulation Is Ripe, PKS Asks Jokowi To Follow The KPU Version Of The 2024 Election Schedule

JAKARTA - The voting day for the 2024 Simultaneous Elections has yet to be decided. Ideally, Commission II of the House of Representatives together with the Government represented by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) and the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) have decided on the schedule for voting for the 2024 Pilleg and Presidential Elections yesterday.

However, this agreement was again postponed because the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, was summoned by the Palace.

It is known that until now, the voting date for the 2024 General Election has not been determined because there are still two proposals. The government through the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, proposed a date of May 15, while the Indonesian KPU wanted the voting to be held on February 21.

Partai Keadilan Sosial (PKS) suggested that President Joko Widodo follow the KPU's proposal in determining the date for the 2024 Simultaneous Elections.

"It's better if Mr. Jokowi joins the KPU. Because the simulations that have been carried out are ripe", said PKS Chairman, Mardani Ali Sera to reporters, Thursday, October 7.

Members of the Indonesia House of Representatives Commission II considered that there were many advantages that could be taken if the Simultaneous General Election was held in February 2024. In particular, preparations would be more mature if the time was longer.

"The February 2024 election has the advantage of providing sufficient time and preparation period for the organizers, but it has the potential to swell the budget and crowds will occur from the start", he explained.

"Meanwhile, the May 2024 election makes it easier and lowers the budget, but the quality can be disrupted", he continued.

According to Mardani, if the Simultaneous Election is held in February, it is feared that it will coincide with the Simultaneous Regional Head Election which will also be held in the same year.

"The proposal for May 2024 is more risky, the time is tight with the 2024 Simultaneous Elections process which has been bound by the Elections Law in November 2024", he concluded.
