MALANG - The Mount Arjuno-Welirang hike in East Java has been closed again after being opened at two entrances, namely the Tambaksari route, Purwodadi District, and Tretes, Prigen District, Pasuruan Regency.

Head of the Grand Forest Park (Tahura) Raden Soerjo, Ahmad Wahyudi, said the Arjuno Welirang climb was again closed because the Pasuruan Regency area is currently implementing Level 3 Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM).

"Pasuruan Regency is at level 3 PPKM, where tourism activities are not permitted. So, the Arjuno Welirang climb is closed", Wahyudi said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, October 6.

The closing of the climbing which just opened on September 19, 2021, starting from October 5, 2021, until an undetermined time. The closure refers to the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs No. 47 of 2021.

The closure was stated in the announcement issued by UPT Tahura Raden Soerjo Number 522/685/123.7/2021 concerning the Closing of Mount Arjuno Welirang Climbing Activities through the Tretes and Tambaksari Routes.

"Mount Arjuno Welirang climbing activities will be reopened with due regard to further government instructions", he said.

Mount Arjuno is administratively located on the border of Batu City, Malang Regency, and Pasuruan Regency. The three areas are currently still implementing PPKM level 3, so the Arjuno Welirang climb must be closed.

Mount Arjuno is the second-highest mountain in East Java, with a height of 3,339 meters above sea level (masl). Meanwhile, Mount Welirang has a height of 3,156 masl.
