Wow, 2 Thousand Houses Of New Johar Residents Don't Have Septic Tanks

JAKARTA - The discourse on structuring slum areas in Johar Baru, Central Jakarta has not been realized. In fact, the Central Jakarta City Government had planned to rearrange the village so that it was not slum and livable.

As is known, the Tanah Tinggi, Kampung Rawa, Johar Baru and Galur urban areas have very high population densities. The population density has an impact on other problems. One of them is the lack of septic tanks in densely populated settlements.

Based on the records of the Johar Baru sub-district, as many as 2,000 residents' houses in the Johar Baru area do not yet have proper sanitary disposal sites or septic tanks for the disposal of human waste.

So that residents still use water channels to dispose of waste directly into Sentiong River.

"It's true, there are approximately 2,000 houses in Johar Baru that don't have septic tanks," Johar Baru sub-district head Nurhelmi Savitri told reporters, Tuesday, October 5.

Nurhelmi said the number was spread across four villages. These include Tanah Tinggi, Johar Baru, Rawa and Galur villages. As a result, residents' defecation channels go directly to the Sentiong canal and river.

"They don't just have a defecation shelter. So, when they defecate, they go straight to the canal to the river," he said.

Nurhelmi said that residents' houses along the banks of Sentiong River also do not have a septic tank in their house. So when residents want to defecate, the sewage flows directly into the river.

"Just look at it on the banks of the river, it looks like there is a defecation funnel which is definitely lined up with the bathroom or kitchen drains," he said.

Meanwhile, based on the data collected, Kampung Rawa Village in Johar Baru is the most densely populated residential area in Southeast Asia.

This can be seen from the data on the number of residents who now reach as many as 26,563 people in 104 RT and 8 RW with an area of only 30.11 hectares.
