PAPUA - Deputy Regent (Wabub) Mimika Johannes Rettob hopes that there will be no power outages during the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON). Timika became one of the cities organizing the four-yearly national sports event.

Currently there are thousands of athletes, officials and guests from various regions who are present in Timika to participate in the implementation of the XX PON.

"I really hope that the State Electricity Company (PLN) will keep the electricity supply safe in Timika City during the PON. Please take good care of this situation because there are so many guests in Timika," he said in Timika as quoted by Antara, Friday, October 1.

On Wednesday, September 28, there were two total blackouts in Timika City. The power outage lasted about an hour.

For that incident, John Rettob apologized to the guests, especially the PON contingent from various regions who stayed at various hotels and non-hotels in Timika City and its surroundings.

"We apologize to the entire community, in particular to the athletes who came to compete in Timika if there were shortcomings that occurred while in Timika to take part in the PON. Last night there were two power cuts, the duration was quite long," he said.

The PLN UP3 Timika said the blackout that occurred in Timika City on Wednesday night was due to technical problems related to the supply of electricity from Pomako Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG) to the Timika PLN system.

So far, the Pomako PLTMG has supplied 10 megawatts of electricity to PLN UP3 Timika.

"Yesterday night, the electricity supply from the Pomako PLTMG  went out of the system due to technical problems. But now it is back to normal and PLN continues to strengthen the power reserves for power plants in Timika," explained PLN UP3 Timika.

PT PLN (Persero) deployed 1.574 assistance technicians who were brought in from the Sulawesi, Maluku and Nusa Tenggara regions to assist PLN Papua's ranks during the XX PON.

Regional Business Director for Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua & Nusa Tenggara PT PLN Syamsul Huda during a visit to Timika some time ago guaranteed that PLN's ranks in the Papua region, especially in Jayapura, Timika and Merauke, which will be the clusters for organizing PON XX, are ready to supply electrical power. to all arenas without any disturbance.

"There is no need to worry about electricity supply during the implementation of Papua XX PON because friends in Papua have tried their best. From the results I saw directly in the field both in Jayapura and Timika, as well as reports from friends in Merauke, I am optimistic that PLN is able to serve electricity needs during the XX PON," he said at the time.
