JAKARTA - Singapore broke another dismal record, as the country reported 2,268 cases of COVID-19 infection and eight deaths from complications of the disease on Wednesday.

The eight people who died consisted of five men and three women, aged between 72 and 90. Six of them were not vaccinated against COVID-19. One person has been vaccinated with one dose, while another has received the full dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

All of them had various underlying medical conditions, the Health Ministry said, although it did not provide detailed information on their underlying medical conditions.

This addition brings Singapore to 38 deaths from COVID-19 during September, a new monthly death toll record, with the Lion Country now recording 93 deaths from COVID-19.

Of the new cases reported on Wednesday, 2,258 were locally transmitted infections comprising 1,810 cases in the community and 448 in migrant worker dormitories.

There were also 10 imported cases, the Ministry of Health said in a daily update released to the media at around 10:55 p.m. Seven were detected on arrival while three developed the disease during stay-at-home notice or isolation.

This is the second day in a row Singapore has reported a record number of new infections, after 2,236 cases were announced on Tuesday. As of Wednesday, Singapore has reported a total of 94,043 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

Singapore's Ministry of Health said there were 12 large active clusters being monitored, including three new dormitories clusters that were added last Wednesday. The ministry said the three clusters were caused by intra-dormitory transmission among residents, with no evidence of spread outside the dormitories.

To note, as of last Tuesday 82 percent of Singaporeans had received the complete COVID-19 vaccine or two doses. Meanwhile, those who have received at least one dose of the vaccine reached 85 percent.
