BADUNG - A man named Zulkipli (34) was arrested by the police in Bali for deceiving a civil servant named Novarman. He offered a BMW but it turned out to be a scam.

"The perpetrator claimed to have received the victim's Rp35 million in cash," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kuta Bali Police, Commissioner Adjutant Made Putra Yudistira, Monday, September 27.

The incident started at the Grand Zuri Hotel, Kuta, Badung, Bali on May 24. From the victim's statement, the perpetrator offered a BMW car while showing photos of the car.

Interested victims agree to the perpetrator's offer. The perpetrator then came again asking for an advance to the victim.

The victim transferred Rp2 million to a BCA account in the name of the perpetrator. The victim then asked for more money until the victim transferred 2 times the Rp15 million.

After the money was transferred, the perpetrator handed over a white Kia Rio car which was called as collateral while waiting for the promised BMW.

"The victim was promised that the BMW car he ordered would be brought by the perpetrator on May 27, 2021," added Yudistira.

On May 27, the victim took a Kia car in the basement of the Grand Zuri Hotel. However, the victim was surprised because the Kia car was not in the basement.

Furthermore, the victim coordinated with the hotel to open the CCTV footage. It was recorded that two people riding motorbikes entered the hotel basement and took the Kia Rio car.

"The victim suspects that the perpetrator took the Kia Rio car which was parked in the basement of the Grand Zuri hotel. Due to this incident, the victim felt cheated and suffered a loss of around Rp35 million," said Yudistira.

The police conducted an investigation and arrested the perpetrators in South Denpasar. The Kia Rio car was also secured.

From the examination, the perpetrator admitted to offering a BMW 320i series car to the victim. But the car does not belong to the perpetrator. In addition, the perpetrator admitted that he took the Kia Rio car parked in the basement of the Grand Zuri hotel without informing the victim.

"From the money that the perpetrator got, he used it to make a spare key for a Kia Rio car in the Jimbaran area, buy clothes, buy cellphones, buy shoes, pay for motorbike installments, give his wife and in-laws and living expenses during the training to Lombok and Banyuwangi," Commissioner Adjutant Yudistira explained.
