MAKASSAR-Basarnas Makassar, South Sulawesi, said that 12 residents from three families (KK) who were flood victims in Luwu Regency had been successfully evacuated.

"The Palopo SAR standby rescue team arrived at the scene at the time of the incident and coordinated with relevant agencies to carry out operations after receiving disaster information," said Head of Makassar Basarnas, Junaedi, quoted by Antara, Thursday, September 23.

The flood disaster caused a number of houses in Walenrang and North Walenrang sub-districts, Luwu Regency to be submerged.

Based on data from the Makassar Basarnas operation report, it was recorded that 12 residents from three families affected by the flood became victims and were successfully evacuated.

Furthermore, the joint SAR team immediately evacuated residents affected by flooding at several points in Walenrang District to safer places.

"The current flood has subsided, and the search and rescue operation is declared complete and it is proposed to close. All elements involved have returned to their respective agencies," said Junaedi.

The elements involved in the joint SAR operation were the Palopo SAR Unit Rescuer Post, Luwu BPBD, Lamasi Police, Lamasi Koramil, Luwu PMI, Luwu TAGANA, Sawerigading SAR, Luwu Care Scout SAR, Himala Pana SAR and assisted by the local community.

Meanwhile, information received from the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that the flood incident occurred on Wednesday, September 22 at around 20.00 WITA with water levels between one and two meters due to the intensity of the rainfall being quite high.

The impact of the flood occurred in Walenrang District and North Walenrang District with three affected villages namely Salubutu Village, Salulino Village and Makawa Baru Village.

The Head of Disaster Management of the South Sulawesi BPBD, Andi Wahid, when confirmed, said that an assessment was still underway for the loss.

At the time of the incident, the Luwu BPBD TRC team immediately monitored the location.

However, due to the night conditions at the time of the incident and the rain was still going on, this hampered the rapid assessment in the local sub-district which has several villages that are difficult to reach when the water discharge conditions rise quite high.

From the progress reports received, the waterlogging conditions have so far receded. There were no casualties in the disaster.
