There Are 272 Vacant Regional Heads Before The 2024 Pilkada, The DPR Warns The Government That The Objective Is To Choose The Plt

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission II Ahmad Doli Kurnia revealed, there will be 272 regional heads whose terms of office expire in the 2022-2023 period. This means that there are 272 vacant government seats that will be filled by Acting Officers or (Plt) while waiting for the Simultaneous Regional Head Elections to be held in 2024.

Doli also reminded the government to be objective and transparent in placing Acting regional heads in 101 regions in 2022, and 171 regions in 2023. "We hope that the government can be objective, as well as transparent. Must build good communication with all political stakeholders so that those who are placed those are really neutral people," said Doli at the DPR Building, Tuesday, September 21.

According to the Deputy of Golkar's DPP, it would be dangerous if the government made a mistake in appointing the Plt and did not even neutrally support the candidates participating in the Pilkada contestation.

"There is a danger that, for example, the position that is placed is not neutral and then sided with a certain political force," explained Doli.

Doli also mentioned that there would be different nuances if an area was led by a non-definitive official. Moreover, the period of time is quite long.

"The authority is certainly different. Second, legitimacy will certainly affect psychologically, both those who are led and those who lead," said Doli.

"Moreover, he is leading in an atmosphere of pandemic crisis, which I think is the definitive regional head, the challenges are extraordinary, let alone those that are not," he continued.

Not to mention, added Doli, that the Acting officials will face the political situation in the DPR and political parties. This, he said, also has the potential to affect the running of the government.

"If he is not smart, maybe he is not used to dealing with the political atmosphere in the DPR and all kinds of things will affect important decisions in running the government," concluded Doli.
