10 People Examined For Viral Persecution Cases At Tanjung Gusta Prison, Medan

MEDAN - As many as 10 people were investigated for a viral video showing an inmate at the Tanjung Gusta Class 1 Penitentiary, Medan, North Sumatra, allegedly being abused and blackmailed.

Head of Class IA Tanjung Gusta Medan Prison, Erwedi Supriyatno, at the Indonesian Ombudsman Office for the North Sumatran Representative said the 10 people being examined consisted of eight inmates and two prison officers.

"We, together with the Kemenkum HAM team, have questioned 10 people so far", he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, September 20.

Erwedi confirmed that the viral video was recorded in Tanjung Gusta Prison. However, he denied allegations of extortion against inmates.

"We did an in-depth investigation, observed, examined, and so far we have stated that the video was actually made at the Class 1 Medan Prison", he said.

But Erwedi admitted that he could not confirm the perpetrators who perpetrated the abuse against the inmates.

However, he said, if the act of violence was carried out by prison officers or fellow inmates, then his party would take firm action.

"We will take strict action by applicable regulations", he said.

Previously, a video showing an inmate suspected of being abused and extorted at the Class IA Tanjung Gusta Penitentiary, Medan, went viral on social media.

The video shows an inmate saying his colleague was beaten for not giving money to the officer while showing his colleague's bruised back due to alleged abuse.
