JAKARTA - House of Representatives (DPR) Commission II together with the government and election organizers have again postponed the determination of the schedule for the 2024 Simultaneous General Election and Regional Head Elections.
The postponement was carried out after there was a difference of opinion between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the General Elections Commission (KPU) regarding the proposed voting times for the Pilleg and Presidential Elections.
Chairman of Commission II of the House of Representatives, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung, said that there was still a need for synchronization so that the schedule for the implementation of the Simultaneous General Election and Regional Head Elections was postponed again.
"House of Representatives Commission II together with the Minister of Home Affairs, KPU, Bawaslu (General Election Supervisory Agency), and DKPP (Election Organizing Honorary Council) have agreed on the need for exercise and synchronization of several issues before a decision is made during the first trial period for the 2021-2022 Session Year", said Doli during a working meeting at the DPR building, Thursday, 16 September.
The Golkar politician explained that today's decision was canceled because there were still problems. One of them is the question of voting time for the 2024 Simultaneous Elections.
However, said Doli, the decision-making regarding the schedule for the 2024 general election and local elections can be carried out before the DPR enters a recess in October.
"Maybe we will meet again on October 6. One day before the trial period", said Doli.
Previously, the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian asked Commission II of the House of Representatives to postpone the determination of the D day of the 2024 Election to be decided today. The reason is, the Ministry of Home Affairs has a different proposal from the General Elections Commission (KPU).

In fact, the postponement has also been made during the working meeting of Commission II of the House of Representatives on September 6. At that time, the decision was not taken because the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, was unable to attend.
"We ask that the 2024 voting date be decided at the Commission II working meeting, at the next meeting, before the recess", Tito said in a working meeting with the House of Representatives, Thursday, September 9.
The Minister of Home Affairs proposed that the Pilleg and Presidential Elections or the 2024 General Elections be held in April or May for security reasons. Meanwhile, the KPU proposed February 21, 2024.
"We propose that the voting day be held in April as in previous years or if it is still possible in May 2024", said Tito.
