JAKARTA - The Mayor of Solo, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, is said to be exploring himself to run in the DKI Jakarta Pilkada in 2024.

This emerged after Gibran left for Jakarta to receive the Top BUMD Awards 2021 and fulfilled the invitation for a blood donation event from PWNU DKI Jakarta.

Seeing this, the Executive Director of the Indonesian Public Institute (IPI) Karyono Wibowo assessed that there were indeed efforts to encourage Gibran to participate in the 2024 DKI Pilkada contestation.

"It seems that there is a tendency to go there, with various political semiotics and various narratives that appear, it seems that there is indeed an effort to encourage Gibran in the DKI Jakarta gubernatorial election," Karyono said when contacted by VOI, Tuesday, September 14.

However, he continued, the candidacy for governor of DKI is certainly Gibran's right as a citizen, as long as he fulfills the requirements to become a candidate for regional head.

"Well, if that's the case then Gibran wants to follow in the footsteps of his father Mr. Joko Widodo," said Karyono.

However, Karyono said that Gibran, who had only been leading Solo for a few months, could not be compared to Jokowi. Because, previously Jokowi was the mayor of Solo who had two terms, then in the middle of the journey he moved to try out the fight for the DKI 1 seat.

"The problem is, if Gibran is then brought to DKI Jakarta, it is different from his father's case. His father has been on the road for two periods so he already has a legacy, achievements, so that when he entered the capital city of Jakarta to participate in the gubernatorial election contestation, Jokowi already had social capital, achievements, track record politics so that it can be sold in DKI," he explained.

Meanwhile, Gibran, said Karyono, had just tasted the seat of regional head in Solo. So, it has not matched and imitated Jokowi who 'jumped' to DKI.

"So the difference between Gibran and his father, I think, is that they don't have the capital to achieve as regional heads. This means that it's new, that's the difference between Jokowi and Gibran," said Karyono.

Previously, the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Administrator (PWNU) of DKI Jakarta Province stated that Gibran was worthy of being a candidate for Governor (Cagub) of DKI.

However, Gibran denied when asked about his readiness to run in the DKI Jakarta governor election. He casually replied that he still wanted to take care of Solo.

"No, I focus on Solo. Wis, wis, wis," he said, Monday, September 13.
