Inappropriate Rice Seller Who Had Viral, Finally Arrested By Satgassus Maleo

SULUT – A seller of rice unfit for consumption was secured by the Maleo Satgassus of the North Sulawesi Regional Police (Polda Sulut). The suspect, with the initials EL (40), a resident of Remboken, Minahasa, has deceived consumers with bad rice that has been prepared in advance.

The Head of Public Relations of the North Sulawesi Police, Kombes Pol Jules Abraham Abas, said four sacks of unfit for consumption had been confiscated by officers as evidence.

"The suspect and evidence of four sacks of rice that are not fit for consumption have been handed over and secured at the Airmadidi Police for further investigation," said Pol Kombes Jules Abraham Abas, quoting Antara, Monday, September 13.

Jules suspects that the perpetrators previously bought mixed rice at a market in Minahasa, then resold it for a profit.

The suspect's modus operandi was to put rice that was still good at the top so that the victim was sure. When the buyer was careless, the perpetrators exchanged rice that had been mixed.

"This case is still under development to reveal the possibility of another crime scene," he said.

To convince the victims, the perpetrators argued that the rice they were selling was a type of Super Membramo. An elderly victim was tempted, and bought two sacks of rice.

Shortly after the suspect left, the victim opened the sack of rice, which turned out to be mostly damaged and unfit for consumption.

Residents around the victim's residence who felt compassion, then uploaded the incident on social media Facebook, so that it became viral.

The Maleo Task Force, which received the information, then responded quickly by conducting an investigation and succeeded in finding out the whereabouts of the suspect.
