JAKARTA - Allegations of negligence and intent behind the deadly fire at the Class I Tangerang Prison are being investigated. The police began to investigate a number of parties, including prison officials.

The Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Public Relations Division, Commissioner Ahmad Ramadhan, said that the top official at the Tangerang prison to be investigated was Victor Teguh Prihartono. He served as the Head of the Prison (Kalapas).

"Witness examination at the Tangerang Class 1 Kalapas", said Ramadhan

It is planned that the inspection will be carried out today. This is because the summons for the examination has been sent for some time.

"So the plan is that after the summons an examination will be carried out, the examination as a witness will be carried out on Monday, September 13, 2021, at the Metro Jaya Police (Polda)", said Ramadhan.

In addition to examining the Kalapas, in the investigation process, several other witnesses will also be questioned. They range from prison officers to firefighters.

"(Inspection) 14 prison employees who carried out picket on that day, 7 inmates, examination of 3 firefighters, 3 witnesses from the State Electricity Company (PLN)", said Ramadhan.

Not only the examination, to thoroughly investigate this issue, investigators have also confiscated evidence. Some of them are CCTV footage and dozens of cell phones.

"The confiscation has been carried out, legally because it has been raised to the investigation, evidence has been confiscated in the form of 14 cellphones, CCTV footage, padlocks and keys and other evidence related to criminal acts", said Ramadhan.

Examination and confiscation of evidence are carried out to determine the suspect behind the deadly fire incident. This is because the case is currently under investigation.

In addition, investigators have also sent a Notice of Investigation Commencement (SPDP) to the Tangerang City Prosecutor's Office. This delivery is one of the administrative requirements for the investigation and determination of suspects.

"As a result of the coordination of the Polda Metro Jaya, the SPDP was sent to the Head of the Banten Prosecutor's Office, which was previously sent to the State Prosecutor (Kajari) of Tangerang City, in this case, the SPDP was sent to the Head of the Banten Prosecutor's Office", said Ramadhan.

Meanwhile, the Tangerang Class I Prison caught fire on Wednesday, September 8, in the early hours of the morning. As a result, 44 inmates died due to the incident.
