JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) will carry out a transformation, so that the contribution of coal in the future is optimal according to its role. One of the things that will be done is the development of the use of coal for use by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Director of Coal Business Development of the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Sujatmiko, said that his party wanted to improve the quality of coal so that its value could meet the certification needs in Indonesia and others.
Furthermore, Sujatmiko said, his party was trying to develop the use of coal for MSMEs. This is due to the fact that many MSMEs use wood as fuel for production.
"Coal can be shared. We realize that many MSMEs burn using wood. In fact, in several places we have received information about burning using plastic to make the materials that he produces. This is strictly prohibited by the environment," he said, in a virtual discussion. , Tuesday, June 30.
According to Sujatmiko, one that is being developed is to convert solid coal into liquid. Then the liquid is formed so that it resembles the physical properties of petroleum.
Furthermore, said Sujatmiko, if this coal development can be successful and can be used easily by all MSMEs, it will be an alternative in the future.
"Well, this is if we can provide tickets that are user friendly and hassle-free. We are sure that coal will be an alternative for MSMEs," he said.
Sujatmiko explained, based on data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Indonesia has 149 billion tons of coal resources. However, not all mining can be done. This is because the infrastructure is inadequate. Meanwhile, about 37.6 billion tons of mining can be done.
"The resource means there is coal, but because perhaps the current location is difficult to access, it cannot be used as a reserve. We cannot plan to mine it yet. So this resource must be further investigated, its status upgraded to a reserve," he said.
