Even Though He Is A Suspect, Ustaz Yahya Waloni Is Not Necessarily Detained

JAKARTA - Police have not been able to confirm whether Ustaz Yahya Waloni will be detained or not. Because investigators still have 24 hours to determine it.

"This is still a process. Arrested at 17.00 WIB (yesterday), meaning that the Police have 1x24 hours. There is still time until 17.00 WIB (today)", said Head of Public Information Bureau of the Public Relations Division of the Police, Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono to reporters, Friday, August 27.

Although, when he was asked about Yahya's health condition, which seemed to have to use a cane to walk, could influence the decision to arrest him, Rusdi did not want to speculate on this. The authority to detain or not entirely rests with the investigator.

However, it is emphasized that Yahya Waloni is in good health. He can still walk well despite using an assistive device.

"He can still walk, even though he is assisted with tools, he can still walk on his own", said Rusdi.

Ustaz Yahya Waloni was arrested at his residence in Permata Housing, Cluster Dragon, Cileungsi, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Thursday, August 26.

The arrest of Yahya was based on the police report (LP) number LP/B/0287/IV/2021/BARESKRIM dated 27 April 2021. In the report, Yahya was considered to have insulted the Bible in his lecture.

Currently, Yahya has also been named a suspect in the alleged blasphemy or blasphemy case.
