The Demonstration Got Chaotic, The Suspension Of The BEM Of The Faculty Of Law, Bengkulu University Was Lifted

BENGKULU - Bengkulu University (Unib) Chancellor Ridwan Nurazi stated that the Dean of the Faculty of Law has revoked the decision to suspend the management of the Faculty of Law Student Executive Board (BEM) under the leadership of Maulana Taslam. in a family manner and in the end it is a 'happy ending'," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, August 24.

He explained the certainty of lifting the suspension after the university intervened to mediate between the students who had held a demonstration since Tuesday morning and the Dean of the Faculty of Law. Previously, hundreds of Unib students from across study programs since Tuesday morning held a demonstration in front of the office of the Dean of the Faculty of Law to demanded the revocation of the Dean's Decree (SK) number 3098/UN30.8/HK/2021 regarding the suspension of the BEM of the Faculty of Law, Unib.

This demonstration was even colored by riots between students and campus security officers. The situation heated up when the faculty insisted on not wanting to revoke the decision to freeze the BEM.

The crowd who chose to stay in the dean's office until Tuesday evening forced the university to intervene to resolve the issue.

Bengkulu University Student President Tere Ade Rempas appreciated the steps taken by the university which were considered successful in bridging the demands of students to the Unib Faculty of Law.

With the revocation of the decree, he said, the management of the BEM of the Faculty of Law Unib under the leadership of Maulana Taslam was active again.

"Alhamdulillah, today the struggle of the BEM alliance friends at Bengkulu University with student organizations has been successful. The suspension decree was officially withdrawn by the dean after being mediated by the rector," said Ade.

In addition to revoking the suspension decree, in the joint dialogue between students and the Faculty of Law, it was also agreed that all campus problems involving students be resolved in a family way.

Previously, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Unib, issued a decree number 3098/UN30.8/HK/2021 regarding the suspension of the Student Executive Board for the Large Family of Students of the Faculty of Law, University of Bengkulu for the period 2021-2022.

The decree confirms that the names included in the BEM management structure of the Faculty of Law Unib for the period 2021-2022 are not allowed to carry out any activities on behalf of the faculty BEM.

The Governor of the BEM of the Faculty of Law of Unib, Maulana Taslam, indicated that the suspension was due to a series of criticisms submitted by the BEM of the Faculty of Law to the campus through their Instagram account @bem.fhunib.

There were also criticisms that were raised regarding the campus services to students, including the complicated academic administration and transparency of funding for student organization activities.
