Juliari And Prosecutors Agree To Think About 12 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - The panel of judges at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court sentenced Juliari Peter Batubara to a prison term of 12 years and a fine of IDR 500 million, subsidiary of 6 months.

However, the decision was not immediately accepted by Juliari and the Public Prosecutor (JPU). The two of them expressed their thoughts first.

"We have discussed with the defendant to determine his position, we will try to think about it first", said Juliari's lawyer, Maqdir Ismail during the trial, Monday, August 23.

One of the reasons for not accepting the decision immediately, continued Maqdir, was so that his party could study the verdict file and make a decision later. Especially when it comes to receiving money.

"So there is sufficient opportunity to study and review the sound of the verdict and the reasons in the decision regarding the receipt of a sum of money and others", said Maqdir.

While the prosecutor also stated the same thing. They decided to think about the 12-year sentence.

The team of prosecutors will use the time allotted to study the dossier of the verdict. Next, decide to accept the verdict or file an appeal.

"We used the time to study the verdict in 7 days", the prosecutor said.

Juliari Peter Batubara was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the bribery case for the procurement of COVID-19 social assistance (bansos) in the Greater Jakarta area. Not only that, but Juliari was also sentenced to a fine of IDR 500 million, a subsidiary of 6 months in prison.

The panel of judges stated that Juliari was legally and convincingly proven guilty of corruption. His actions violated Article 12 letter b in conjunction with Article 18 or Article 11 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 to 1 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph 1 to 1 of the Criminal Code.
