DPD RI Chairman La Nyalla Hopes The Government Is Serious In Guaranteeing Orphans Due To COVID-19

SUMEDANG – The government ensures that orphans whose parents died due to COVID-19 are the responsibility of the state. Knowing this, the Chairman of the DPD RI, La Nyalla Mattalitti, appreciates the government, but he ensures that other needs related to welfare must be guaranteed.

"It is not enough if the state only focuses on health insurance and education guarantees, social security regarding their welfare must also be considered. Do not let health and education matters be met, but they must helter-skelter to fulfill their daily needs," said La Nyalla, as quoted by Antara, Sunday 22 August.

The senator from East Java province also emphasized the need for long-term assistance to these children, including psychosocial assistance.

According to him, this is necessary because the loss of a parent due to COVID-19 must have left a deep trauma.

"Of course, trauma healing programs are needed for these children. It's not easy to lose two parents at one time. The serious injury of loss will be prolonged. Therefore, the government must make the most appropriate program to handle it," he said.
