JAKARTA - The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency Sandiaga Uno supports the acceleration of vaccination in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) ahead of the World Superbike Mandalika event which will be held on November 12-14, 2021.

According to him, the first international racing event in Mandalika requires 50 percent of the people of NTB to have been vaccinated to ensure the safety of the international event from the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Until August 20, 2021, only 16.24 percent of the NTB population has been vaccinated. This is a challenge for all of us. However, we still have a few months before the 2021 World Superbike which will be held in November 2021," he said in an official statement quoted on Sunday, August 22.

Sandi added that his party continues to coordinate with ministries/agencies to support the acceleration of vaccination in NTB. This is also the direction of President Joko Widodo to make the first international racing event successful at the Mandalika Circuit before the 2022 MotoGP.

“I also continue to coordinate with colleagues in the cabinet to continue to boost vaccinations in Mandalika. Because we want to make this international event a success. I support the pattern of collaboration involving various parties. So far, 200,000 people have been vaccinated from the target of 450,000 until September 2021," he said.

On the same occasion, the Governor of NTB, Zulkieflimansyah, explained that in order to pursue the vaccination target, he and his staff had asked relevant stakeholders to supply more doses of the vaccine that entered NTB.

In addition to vaccination, infrastructure preparation and preparation for supporting international events also have clear targets. Such as the preparation of transportation which includes land, sea, and air, then lodging, hospitals, and the environment.

“Vaccination must be accelerated before the World Superbike event in November. Because of the conditions for the event to be held, 50 percent of the people of NTB must have been vaccinated. As well as the preparation of infrastructure that we continue to accelerate. For that, we need the support of all parties," he said.
