This Week, 25 Provinces Experienced A Decline In COVID-19 Positive Cases

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said this week there was a decline in positive cases of COVID-19 in 25 provinces.

"If you look at the provincial level, this week a decline in positive cases in 25 provinces or 73 percent of all provinces in Indonesia has shown an improvement in positive cases", said Wiku in a virtual press conference, Thursday, August 19.

Wiku detailed that the province that experienced the most decline in positive cases was West Java, which fell 7,128 cases this week.

Then, DKI Jakarta experienced a decrease of 5201 cases, East Java decreased by 4,407 cases, East Kalimantan decreased by 2,959 cases, and NTT decreased by 2,866 cases.

The decline in positive cases this week was also accompanied by a decrease in the positivity rate from 23.57 percent on August 2-8 to 21.48 percent on August 9-15 or down by 2.09 percent.

"This is a very good development because it means that most provinces in Indonesia have improved and are increasingly able to control transmission", said Wiku.

In addition to positive cases, cases of death and bed occupancy ratio (BOR) have decreased in the last 3-4 weeks. The cure rate has also increased.

"This is certainly good news and enthusiasm for all of us to be able to continue trying to suppress Covid cases, at least until it reaches the state it was before the spike in cases", he said.
