Three Women Pickpockets Arrested By Police, Husbands Become Suspects

JAKARTA - The police arrested a pickpocket syndicate that has been operating since three years ago in the Jakarta and Tangerang areas. Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police Kombes Yusri Yunus said the perpetrators consisted of married women.

"Interestingly, the perpetrator is a woman", said Kombes Yusri Yunus to reporters, Thursday, August 19.

Five suspects were arrested by officers. Where, three people are executors with the initials YR (45), MW (35), and RH (45), all three are housewives. Meanwhile, RJ (31) is a collector, and SS (34) is the husband of the suspect YR.

"The five suspects that we have detained are three women, one man who as a jockey escorted them was the husband of the main perpetrator and the other was a collector of stolen goods", said Yusri.

The arrest of this syndicate was based on reports of cell phone theft that occurred in the South Tangerang area, on Saturday, August 14. With the report, the police followed up and arrested the suspects, on Monday, August 16.

"(Arrest) In their respective homes, these all live in Bekasi, Jakarta, Pulo Gadung, and (suspect) YR in Kemayoran with her husband. If the collector is in Bekasi", said Yusri.

From the results of the examination, this syndicate is known to be an old player. They have been in action since 2019. In fact, sometimes they act independently.

"This is a crime they have more than 50 times, the confession is forgotten. About 50 times more since three years ago he worked and was never caught", he added.

"Everything is controlled by YR, she decides when to go to where to go, whose target is. Even sometimes (acts) alone", he continued.

Four of them are suspected of under Article 363 of the Criminal Code and face 9 years in prison. Meanwhile, RJ is suspected of Article 480 of the Criminal Code.
