PPP Says Discourse On Election Postponed To 2027 Has Been Discussed By Political Parties

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the PPP DPP Arsul Sani, said that the discourse on the 2024 election being postponed to 2027 had been discussed in internal political parties.

"Of course there will also be discussions, including from internal political parties. There are also individual elements of society," said Arsul, Wednesday, August 18.

However, Arsul did not mention in detail which political parties have opened talks regarding the postponement of the 2024 elections

It's just that, said Arsul, the issue of the postponement of the 2024 General Election is because the current government has not worked normally. Because, for almost two years, the focus has only been on dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Then there was a suggestion that our election celebration be postponed. There was a discourse like that. Once again this is a democratic country, right, it can't be banned," said the member of Commission III of the DPR.

However, the Deputy Chairperson of the MPR emphasized that this speculation could not be a reference for deciding to postpone the 2024 to 2027 elections. This is because there has not been a single study that can predict the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Don't worry, it's still difficult to control the image. Because of that, we can't easily use it as a basis," concluded Arsul.

Previously, KPU member I Dewa Kade Wiarsa Raka Sandi responded that the issue of the 2024 presidential election was postponed to 2027. He stated that the presidential and legislative elections (Pilpres/Pileg) as well as simultaneous regional elections were held in 2024 in accordance with the provisions of the law.

Dewa said that based on the agreement of the joint working team, general elections and local elections would still be held in 2024 as stated in Law Number 7 of 2017 and Law 10 of 2016.

"The election is planned to be held on February 21, 2024 and the election for regional heads on November 27, 2024," Dewa said in his statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 17.
