Anies Bans Citizens From Celebrating Independence Day With Contests And Crowds

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan asked the entire community not to celebrate the Republic of Indonesia's Independence Day with crowds.

This is stated in the Governor of DKI Jakarta's Appeal Number 12 of 2021 regarding the Implementation of Activities/Competitions in the Context of Celebrating the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia in 2021.

"It is called to all Jakartans not to hold events celebrating the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia that cause crowds or mass gatherings, including rituals, competitions, musical entertainment, and so on", Anies said as quoted in the appeal, Monday, August 16.

Anies asked his citizens to commemorate Indonesian Independence Day from their respective homes with their families.

"You must always follow and obey health protocols in decorating homes, villages, workplaces, and so on in commemoration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia", said Anies.

Anies said this call was made taking into account the spread of COVID-19 that is still happening in Jakarta. According to him, a celebration without mass gathering does not reduce the meaning of Indonesian Independence Day.

"The commemoration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia during this epidemic will not lose its meaning even without the celebration traditions like in previous years. This August 17 moment must be an encouragement for us to fight against the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak", Anies explained.

In this regard, Anies also asked the people of the Capital City to invite other residents to participate in the vaccination program.

"Together monitoring the implementation of health protocols and achieving vaccination targets throughout the DKI Jakarta area by participating in obeying and reminding each other at all times and activities", he said.
