JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said that the government will focus on accelerating vaccination targets for three regional groups starting in September.

The government will distribute more vaccine stocks to 7 agglomeration areas in Java and Bali. Among them are Greater Jakarta, Greater Bandung, Greater Semarang, Greater Solo, DI Yogyakarta, Greater Surabaya, Greater Malang, and the entire island of Bali.

"In the near future, in order to achieve the vaccination target in September, vaccination acceleration will be focused especially on the 7 agglomeration areas in Java and Bali," said Wiku in a virtual press conference, Tuesday, August 10.

Then, other areas that are also the main targets of vaccination are 45 districts/cities with the highest number of additional confirmed cases in non-Java and Bali areas.

Other areas are 5 regencies in the Papua region because it is for the benefit of the National Sports Week (PON). Among Jayapura Regency, Jayapura City, Keerom Regency, Merauke, and Mimika.

Therefore, Wiku admitted that there are other areas that have run out of vaccine stocks. On average, these areas are areas that do not apply PPKM Level 4.

"The unequal vaccination coverage in several regions is a form of government input to determine regional priorities," he said.

Previously, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that his party would increase its testing capability to 300 or even 400 thousand specimens per day to reduce the positivity rate. Budi said the application of testing and tracing was a directive from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"Mr. President also emphasized the need for improved testing and tracing. This is our weakness that is very much needed in the future if we want to gradually open up daily activities without sacrificing the security element," said Budi.

Not only testing, tracing must also be improved because in its implementation now the TNI and Polri have been assisted. "We hope that in the next two weeks there will be significant progress and everything has been integrated into one," said the former Deputy Minister of SOEs.

"More aggressive tracking and testing is being carried out in all corners of the archipelago. With the help of the TNI-Polri, we think it can be a tool so that we can gradually balance economic activities while on the other hand maintaining our security together," he concluded.
