Dozens Of Mimika Police Personnel Secure The DPRD Office From Demonstrations

JAKARTA - Dozens of Mimika Police personnel since Friday, August 6 afternoon until tonight are still on standby at the local DPRD office to anticipate actions by former members of the previous period council who will return to their offices in the near future.

As reported by Antara, Saturday, August 7, the Head of Ops of Mimika Police Commissioner Adjutant Roberth Hitipeuw said that his party had deployed 60 personnel to guard and secure the Mimika Regency DPRD Office.

"We have 60 personnel on standby to anticipate demonstrations related to the status of the old DPRD members," said Commissioner Adjutant Robert in Timika.

Based on intelligence information received by the Mimika Police, it was stated that dozens of members of the Mimika Regency DPRD for the 2014-2019 period would demand to be reactivated as members of the council as decided by the Jayapura Administrative Court panel of judges some time ago.

In their decision, the Jayapura Administrative Court panel of judges also declared the Papuan Governor's Decree No. 155/266/2019 regarding the Inauguration of Mimika DPRD members for the 2019-2024 period null and void.

"What we got information from the field was that there were several people who wanted to come to the demonstration. That's why we took security measures. We anticipate things that are not desirable, we are also afraid that there will be anarchic things," said Robert.

Mimika DPRD member for the 2014-2019 period Atimus Komangal said that the current DPRD membership status will end on Sunday, August 8 at 0.00 eastern Indonesia time.

Simultaneously, on August 9, 2021, members of the Mimika Regency DPRD for the 2014-2019 period will automatically be active again in carrying out their duties.

This refers to the Supreme Court's decision to ask the Governor of Papua to cancel SK Number 115 concerning the Appointment and Inauguration of the Membership of the Mimika Regency DPRD for the 2019-2024 period.

If the decision is not executed, for 60 days after the decision is declared legally binding, the decision material is considered valid by law.

Even so, Atimus denied the issue that there would be a demonstration by a group of people to reactivate members of the Mimika Regency DPRD from the previous period.

"We have won, our position has been restored by law, so what do we do with the demonstration? This is an issue that was deliberately raised by irresponsible people," said Atimus.

The chairman of the Berkarya Party DPC confirmed that on August 9, 2021, all members of the previous period's council would go to office as usual.

"We remind Setwan to act in accordance with the rule of law. On the 9th we are officially in office, so we hope that Setwan will prepare an agenda for the formation of the completeness of the board and the schedule for the inaugural session," he said.

According to Atimus, on November 24, 2019, his party was dishonorably dismissed from the membership of the Mimika Regency DPRD.

For more than 1 year Atimus and his colleagues have been fighting for justice without committing any acts of violence.

"Finally, the state returned our rights. The law enabled us to reactivate. We are a state of law, we must follow legal procedures," he said again.
