Former Governor Of DKI Jakarta Surjadi Soedirdja Died Of Illness

JAKARTA - The former governor of DKI Jakarta for the 1992-1997 period, Surjadi Soedirdja, passed away today at 10.35 a.m. local time. Surjadi died of illness, not due to COVID-19.

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan expressed his condolences for Surjadi's passing. Anies considers Surjadi's services in building Jakarta will be remembered by the citizens.

"The entire ranks of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government express their deep condolences for his passing. His dedication to building Jakarta will continue to be etched in all of our memories", said Anies at City Hall, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, August 3.

Surjadi breathed his last at Mayapada Hospital, Central Jakarta. He leaves behind a wife, 2 children, and 3 grandchildren. Based on information from the family, the body will be taken to the funeral home on Jalan MPR 2 No. 8 A Gaharu, West Cilandak, South Jakarta.

For information, Surjadi served as Commander of the Military Region (Pangdam Jaya) from 1988 to 1990, after being entrusted with being the Chief of Staff of Military Area Command IV (Kodam IV)/Diponegoro.

Subsequently, he was appointed as the tenth Governor of DKI in 1992, replacing the position of Lieutenant General TNI (Ret.) Wiyogo Atmodarminto.

During his tenure as Governor, Surjadi had a number of programs such as building flats, increasing green areas, and increasing the number of water catchment areas.

When Surjadi was in office, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government received the Samya Krida Tata Serene Karta Raharja Award. The award is an appreciation for the highest work in carrying out 5 years of development.
