Other Countries Respond To Harun Masiku's Red Notice, KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri: I Don't Want To Say Where

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Firli Bahuri, claimed that several neighboring countries had responded to the issuance of red notices against former PDI-P legislative candidate Harun Masiku, who is currently a fugitive.

However, he did not specify which countries had responded to the red notice issued by NCB Interpol on Friday, July 30.

"Several neighboring countries have responded to the search for the suspect HM. I don't want to say which countries, but they have responded", Firli said in an online press conference broadcast on the Indonesian KPK YouTube, Monday, August 2.

He said the neighboring country's response was important considering that the KPK could not arrest its own fugitives. Moreover, if Harun is abroad.

"We believe we can't make the arrests ourselves, especially if our suspicions are abroad", said Firli.

"So we asked Interpol for help to issue a red notice and that has been done by Interpol", added the former Deputy for Enforcement of the KPK.

Furthermore, Firli also reminded that those who tried to hinder the attempt to arrest Harun could be charged with Article 21 of the Anti-Corruption Law.

"So if there are parties who help hide them, they will be prosecuted and we have detained them", he said.

As previously reported, Harun Masiku is a suspect in the bribery of former Commissioner of the General Elections Commission, Wahyu Setiawan. This award is made so that he can sit as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives through the interim shift (PAW).

He has been on the wanted list (DPO) since January 29, 2020. Most recently, the KPK informed the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol Indonesia that it had issued a red notice on behalf of Harun Masiku on Friday, July 30.

In carrying out this search, the KPK has collaborated with several parties such as the Criminal Investigation Police of the National Police and the Director-General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.
