Police Name 3 Suspects Of Destroying The COVID-19 Ambulance Body In Jember

JEMBER - Jember Police Investigators have named three suspects in the case of destroying an ambulance and fighting over the body of COVID-19 in Pace Village, Jember Regency, East Java.

"The three suspects who were arrested for vandalizing the ambulance were ME (30), ES (35), and AR (26), the three were residents of Sukmo Ilang Hamlet, Pace Village, Silo District, Jember Regency," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Komang Yogi Arya Wiguna quoted Between, Sunday, August 1st.

This case has gone viral on social media. The police have examined several witnesses and have been questioned and now three people have been named suspects.

The case occurred in Sukmo Ilang Hamlet, Pace Village, Silo Subdistrict on Friday, July 23 night because hoax information was provoked which stated that the body's organs were missing, so that it triggered residents to go berserk and take the bodies that were confirmed positive for COVID-19.

"The suspect's modus operandi was to destroy the ambulance together. They broke the left glass until it broke, hit the ambulance body and it was dented and damaged the oxygen cylinder manometer in the ambulance," he said.

AKP Komang explained that investigators had been trying to take investigative steps to investigate the case before naming a suspect in the seizure of bodies and the destruction of an ambulance for the corpse of a COVID-19 patient.

"We have processed the crime scene (TKP) and examined five witnesses. As for the evidence in the form of an ambulance and three clothes belonging to the perpetrator, we have secured it," he said.

AKP Komang said the three suspects had been detained by the Jember Police Criminal Investigation Unit and they were undergoing the investigation process and the three suspects were charged with Article 170 of the Criminal Code with a threat of five years in prison.

Previously, residents intercepted the Bina Sehat Hospital ambulance carrying the bodies of COVID-19 patients and forcibly took the bodies to open the coffin because of hoax information related to missing body organs.

Then a number of residents broke the glass of the ambulance in Pace Village on Friday, July 23 night.
