Dewas KPK Did Not Use Stepanus' Testimony To Investigate Lili Pintauli's Alleged Ethical Violation

JAKARTA - The Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that the testimony at the trial regarding the communication between KPK Deputy Chair Lili Pintauli Siregar and the inactive Tanjungbalai Mayor M Syahrial would not be considered for alleged ethical violations.

This fact was revealed in the follow-up trial of the alleged bribery case handling with the defendant M Syahrial at the Medan Corruption Court on Monday, July 26 yesterday.

"No (for consideration, ed). We have our own evidence examination due to ethics," said member of the KPK Supervisory Board, Harjono, to reporters, Tuesday, July 27.

He ensured that the supervisory board would dig further on its own about Lili's alleged ethical violation. "We checked ourselves with the available evidence," said Harjono.

Furthermore, he said the Corruption Eradication Commission Council also left it entirely to the court to follow up on the alleged communication between Lili and Syahrial.

"Yes, let the court examine it," he said.

Complementing it, member of the KPK Council, Syamsuddin Haris, emphasized that his party would not tolerate any ethical violations committed by any member of the KPK. Anyone, including the leadership and supervisory board, will be punished if found guilty of violating ethics.

"From the beginning the KPK Supervisory Board was committed to upholding the principle of zero tolerance for violators of the KPK code of ethics," said Syamsuddin.

He also ensured that the investigation into Lili's alleged ethical violation was currently ongoing. The alleged violation was reported by Novel Baswedan et al.

"The allegation of a violation of the code of ethics by one of the KPK leaders is in the process at the council," said Haris.

As previously reported, KPK Deputy Chair Lili Pintauli Siregar was reported to the KPK Supervisory Board for two alleged ethical violations. First, he allegedly contacted and informed the handling of the alleged corruption case that ensnared the Mayor of Tanjungbalai M Syahrial.

Second, Lili is said to have used her position as KPK leader to pressure Tanjungbalai Mayor Syahrial. This was done to settle the staffing affairs of his sister-in-law Ruri Prihatini Lubis at the Tirta Kualo Tanjungbalai Drinking Water Company.
