JAKARTA - Residents of Tojo Una-Una (Touna) Regency, Central Sulawesi are currently evacuating to the mountain after an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 that shook.

Husnul, a resident of Ampana Kota Subdistrict, explained that currently he and his family members have fled to the mountains for fear of aftershocks of a larger magnitude and causing a tsunami.

"Initially, my family and I still stayed at home, but many residents told us to evacuate to the top for fear of rising sea levels, so we panicked and decided to flee to the mountains," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, July 26.

Husnul said residents, especially those living on the coast, had flocked to the mountains and fled their homes until the condition of Touna after the earthquake was believed to be completely safe and would not be hit by a tsunami.

"The electricity here is now out. When the earthquake occurs, the electricity goes out immediately," he continued.

Meanwhile, another Ampana City resident, Farwa, stated that the internet condition in Touna was still disrupted and unstable due to the earthquake.

"The internet network in Ampana Kota is unstable. The electricity is out. Please pray that it will always be in the care of Allah SWT," he said.

Meanwhile, based on an initial report from the Touna Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 was felt between 3 to 5 seconds.

"Residents panicked and then left their homes. There have been no reports of damage. BPBD Touna is still monitoring," said Head of Division 2 of BPBD Touna Mastin Monoarfa.
