To Save Lives, Minister Luhut Affirms Local Governments Can Intervene In Emergency PPKM Control

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, is optimistic that the Indonesian people are ready to comply with and implement various provisions during the Java-Bali Emergency Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM).

The reason is since it was implemented on Saturday, July 3, the Emergency PPKM has run smoothly and in an orderly manner according to the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 15 of 2021.

This was conveyed by a spokesman for the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Jodi Mahardi when delivering information on Emergency PPKM on the islands of Java and Bali, Sunday, July 4.

However, he continued, if things are found that are still not by the instructions, then the regional government and officials in the field must immediately evaluate and intervene to correct this policy.

“Remember this emergency PPKM action is to save lives. The President's orders are clear, we are taking more decisive and measured steps", said Jodi.

The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, said Jodi, emphasized that the current condition of the nation is not in a good condition. Because, the number of confirmed positive today was 27,913 with 493 deaths, as many as 13,282 people were declared cured. Meanwhile, the number of active cases is still at 281,677 patients.

"Of course, this condition requires extraordinary action", said Jodi.

For this reason, according to him, the transmission of COVID-19 must be controlled quickly. Because it has been agreed with the Regional Government that monitoring of community activities will be carried out down to the sub-district level.

"The activities that must be monitored are contained in the Inmendagri 15/2021", he said.

Jodi added that the central government is also cooperating with several digital and social media platforms as well as telecommunication service providers that can track people's journeys during the implementation of this Emergency PPKM.

"If in the field there is still a fairly massive movement, the system will provide a notification and convey it to the local government and related officials in charge of the area for immediate mitigation and intervention measures", said Jodi.
