JAKARTA - Ukraine cannot withdraw from mineral deals on its own initiative or amend the agreement, as all major decisions can only be taken with the approval of the United States, said Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada (parlement) member Oleksify Goncharenko Friday.

Earlier on the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Ukrainian Economy Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, confirmed that the Ukrainian government had accepted a draft mineral-related agreement from the US.

"Regarding representatives in management, Ukraine only has a minority (2 out of 5) in the council and has no veto rights. While the US has one representative. All decisions are taken based on majority votes and must include at least one vote of the US representative. Ukraine can propose a project, but the final decision remains in US hands," Goncharenko said via Telegram quoted by Antara.

According to the draft agreement, Ukraine has a very limited influence on the funds involved, and its presence in management is only formal, the legislator added.

Meanwhile, all strategic decisions regarding investment, allocation of funds, and governance are under US control.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the US for not including security guarantees in the deal.

However, he stressed that Kiev remains interested in agreeing on the agreement if it is necessary to continue to receive assistance and intelligence from the US.

On February 28, US President Donald Trump met with Zelenskyy in Washington to finalize the mineral deal. However, the discussion failed following disagreements at a meeting in the Oval room, White House.
