WAMENA - One of three positive COVID-19 patients in Jayawijaya Regency, Papua, fled the quarantine area provided by the government. This patient is still being sought by the COVID-19 team.

Head of the Jayawijaya Health Office, Doctor Willy Mambieuw in Wamena, the capital of Jayawijaya Regency, Saturday, said the three residents were found to be positive when they took part in the examination provided at Wamena Airport for arriving passengers.

"After the PCR swab test was carried out, they were positive so we brought them for quarantine to be monitored and while we treated them, then after that we will re-examine but the process is not finished, they have run, climbed the back wall," he said, quoted by Antara, Saturday, 3 July.

These three people departed from Jayapura to Jayawijaya by plane and had no symptoms of COVID-19, but only confirmed positive after arriving at Wamena Airport and following a health check.

"Two people have returned to the quarantine area but the other has not returned. His ID card is there but it's the Nduga Regency ID card, the address is around Potikelek (Jayawijaya), so we don't know if he has returned to Nduga nor do we know," he said.

The COVID-19 handling team hopes that residents do not run away from quarantine places because the quarantine efforts carried out by the government are to protect residents from the virus.

They also expect every citizen who comes from outside Jayapura through Wamena Airport, to follow the COVID-19 prevention procedures, including the free checks provided at this airport.

"Because when we want to carry out the inspection procedure, then we feel that it is an obstacle, actually it becomes a ticking time bomb that has an effect on our families or people around us," he said.
